Government forces stormed a rebel-held town outside Damascus yesterday after days of fighting, killing at least 23 fighters, according to an activist group and a rebel spokesman.

Syrian security forces killed at least 62 people today in an escalation of the crackdown on protests ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, activists and residents said.
