Ireland’s reputation as a leading data storage centre has been enhanced with the opening of Telecity’s Blanchardstown facility in Dublin. The data centre adds to existing facilities here such as Google’s €75m investment in Dublin and a string of others in the pipeline from other multinationals.

Shares of EMC, the world’s biggest maker of storage computers, tumbled after forecasting full-year profit that trailed analysts’ estimates and as VMware, the software maker it mostly owns, said it is considering job cuts.

EUROPE’s largest data centre provider, TelecityGroup, has acquired one of the leading players in the Irish market — Data Electronics — for £87.6 million (€101m) in cash.
