The Football Association of Ireland’s State funding could be cut unless the soccer body fully explains the €100,000 loan from ex-chief executive John Delaney and other financial matters.

TDs are to submit their lines of questioning to the FAI and John Delaney ahead of their appearance before the Oireachtas Sports Committee over governance concerns later this month.

Cecilia Keaveney, chairperson of the Government Sports Committee, said despite today's unsuccessful Euro 2008 bid the Government remained committed to promoting Ireland as a country capable of hosting major sporting events.
