The future of cross-border soccer in Ireland looks bleak after the 2015 Setanta Cup was shelved yesterday.

The organising committee of the Setanta Sports Cup are confident the incident which marred Sligo Rovers’ 2-0 quarter-final defeat of Glentoran at the Showgrounds was a rarity and unlikely to be repeated.

AS the competing clubs in the Setanta Sports Cup gathered at FAI headquarters in Abbotstown yesterday for a pre-tournament media day, it was not the news anyone wanted to hear — Pat Fenlon saying that Bohemians might not be able to fulfil their opening fixture against Portadown at Dalymount Park on Monday, February 21. And it has been confirmed that, if the holders are forced to pull out, their place will be taken by UCD.

The Setanta Sports Cup committee has confirmed that Turner’s Cross will host the Setanta Sports Cup final between Cork City and Glentoran on Saturday, November 1 at 7.30pm.
