SERBIA has arrested the last major war crimes suspect from the 1990s conflicts in former Yugoslavia, closing what its president said was a “burdensome” page in the country’s history.

Serbian President Boris Tadic today met with Pope Benedict XVI and said he hoped the pontiff could visit the country “very soon,” but said certain pre-conditions had to be negotiated first with the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Nato today welcomed the plea by the wife of fugitive Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic for her husband to surrender, saying such a move would benefit his family, Bosnia and the whole region.
