London shares ended Wednesday on a low note after oil prices resumed their upward trend and upbeat US economic news stoked interest rate fears.

The British competition watchdog today said the planned takeover by two brewers of the beer dispensing equipment arm of US brewer Coors could spark higher beer prices.

The London market extended its losses today as retailing gloom and a poor showing on Wall Street dragged the top flight down.
