THE saga over Alberto Contador’s positive test for clenbuterol is set to rumble on after the International Cycling Union (UCI) yesterday confirmed they would take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

THREE-TIME Tour de France champion Alberto Contador is set to line up in the Tour of the Algarve today after the competitions committee of the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) decided to overturn its decision to ban him for a year following his positive test for the banned substance clenbuterol.

Alberto Contador has been cleared by the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation after testing positive for a banned substance during last year’s Tour de France and can return to competition immediately, his spokesman said today.

Alberto Contador has vowed to fight his proposed one-year doping ban, saying: “I will appeal in every possible court to defend my innocence”.

The International Cycling Union have asked the Spanish cycling federation (RFEC) to open disciplinary proceedings against Alberto Contador.
