Worries over economic prospects on both sides of the Atlantic sent London shares lower for a second successive session today.

The London market slid back below the 4,100 level today after trading was hurt by a disappointing statement from Barclays Bank and a tumble on Wall Street.

The FTSE 100 Index drifted towards 4100 today as weak financial stocks weighed on the London market.
