Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has sent a hand-delivered letter to US President George Bush, appealing for more time to prove he is trying to halt terrorist violence against Israelis.

Israeli tanks were today reported to have entered Gaza airport, after warplanes destroyed two of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s helicopters in Gaza and blasted West Bank security installations.
