Security measures at the Oberstown detention facility are being reviewed as gardaí continue to search for three teenage boys who absconded from the centre on Saturday night.

The Ombudsman for Children has queried concerns from staff on the campus of the Oberstown detention schools that they are not trained to deal with 16 and 17-year-old boys.

NO inspections have been carried out at three of the State’s detention centres for children since 1999, despite a legal requirement they should be inspected on an annual basis.
