Racial tensions could increase in Ireland as the economy slows down and Irish people compete for jobs with foreign nationals, experts warned today.

Community groups from all over Ireland are taking part in a week-long series of events to promote diversity and participation in Irish life for Interculture Week 2006.

Ireland’s first national action plan to tackle racism will aid the country’s transition into a modern, multi-ethnic society, the Government said today.
