The latest technology is being used to learn more about the vulnerable bass species in Irish waters. Bass in Cork Harbour have been fitted with tags to help determine where and how they spawn.

The state agency in charge of the country’s rivers has called on the Department of Agriculture to consider a study which concluded fish farming has a "general negative effect" on sea trout stocks, when deciding to grant permission to a planned 1,000-acre fish farm off the Aran Islands.

THE first phase of the white-tailed sea eagle reintroduction programme came to a close in Killarney National Park in recent weeks with the release of an additional 23 young eagles, bringing to 100 the number of birds set loose in the wild through this unique project.
