A company that formed part of the consortium that introduced Eircode has denied that a new delivery code it has offered the courier industry is an alternative to the controversial postcode system.

OUR new postcode system is due to be introduced in largely unamended form this spring despite the reservations expressed by civil liberty groups and the Data Protection Commissioner.

The controversial new postcode system will not be introduced until "satisfactory solutions" are put in place to address "serious concerns", the Data Protection Commissioner has confirmed.

The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey, today re-affirmed his commitment to the introduction of postcodes as he announced the National Postcode Project Board has convened for the first time.
