THE recent concerns raised in the media about the quality of nursing home care are timely in the context of Towards a Family Carers’ Strategy, the recent Carers’ Association report.

THE Government decision to offer a refund of up to €2,000 to those aged 70 and over who have part-funded their nursing home care reflects the lack of a consistent strategy in relation to the financing of long-term care.

I WAS saddened recently to see the blocking of an ambitious Labour Party Dáil motion and Private Members’ Bill that would have provided for a range of supports for the 150,000 family carers in Ireland.
