The Government has agreed to significant changes in the forthcoming disability bill, it emerged tonight.

Disability groups today vowed to continue their fight against the new Disability Bill as it entered the Seanad.

PEOPLE with intellectual disabilities are still being discriminated against in areas of education, employment and housing and are rarely considered as citizens with a right to vote, the National Association for Mentally Handicapped of Ireland (NAMHI) said yesterday.

PROPOSED legislation to improve education rights for the disabled is worthless without proper funding, lobby groups warned last night.
