The death of an asylum seeker with a serious heart condition just weeks after his transfer from Dublin to Cork without medical notes should act as “a clarion call” to the Government that reforms of the asylum system haven’t gone far enough.

The Government has been accused of backing down “in the face of racist arson attacks” by shelving plans for a direct provision centre in Rooskey in Leitrim.

There are 470 asylum seekers who have been granted refugee status in Ireland but who are unable to leave direct provision centres because there is nowhere else for them to go.
