Delegates at an extraordinary general meeting of the Smurfit Corporation yesterday voted almost unanimously in favour of the planned takeover of the company by US firm Madison Dearborne.

The outcome of a vote on the possible takeover of the Smurfit Corporation is expected to be known later this morning.
