Both Limerick and Cork Chambers have long argued that a motorway linking the two cities is vital for the economy in the south of the country.

Because of plans to increase investment in national infrastructure by €500m each year, between 2019 and 2021, the M20 motorway, between Cork and Limerick, is a step closer to happening, the two city’s business leaders said last night.

The proposed M20 motorway between Cork and Limerick could trigger up to 5,400 jobs for the region and prevent almost 120 crashes every year.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan has suggested the Cork-Limerick motorway could be built as long as tolls are included.
