EMC CORP, the world's third-largest maker of data-storage computers, had a fourth-quarter profit of $220.1 million as acquisitions helped boost sales 25%.

Information storage company EMC has announced its plan to acquire LEGATO Systems, Inc.(Nasdaq:LGTO) in a stock transaction valued at approximately $1.3bn (€1.1bn).

EMC Corp, the world’s third-biggest maker of data-storage systems, agreed to buy software rival Legato Systems Inc. for $1.3 billion in stock, to sell more higher-profit programs and rely less on sales of machines.
