Some of the recent fires which scorched parts of Killarney National Park and its surrounds are believed to have been set maliciously.

An Air Corps helicopter last night assisted firemen in extinguishing a major fire in Killarney National Park, Co Kerry.

The Kerry Fire and Rescue Service has attended 44 illegal wildfires during the month of March, within metres of the Killarney National Park.
