Teenagers with family links to Limerick’s feuding McCarthy-Dundon and Keane-Collopy gangs were involved in a gun attack during a late-night confrontation on Thomond Bridge in the city centre.

The jailing of almost 60 key figures in Limerick’s notorious gangs, coupled with in-fighting among active gang members, has led to a significant decrease in crime in the city, according to a senior garda.

THE home of a high-profile associate of Limerick’s McCarthy-Dundon gang came under attack early yesterday when it was raked by machine-gun fire.

THE alliance between the McCarthy and Dundon families goes back to the early 1970s, when one of the McCarthy family from Ballincurra Weston married Kenneth Dundon whose family came from Ballynanty, across the city.
