Some 624 women held in Magdalene laundries have to date received a lump sum payment of more than €23m under a government redress scheme.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has reiterated that An Grianán “served a different purpose” to High Park Magdalene laundry — despite HSE evidence stating they were “one and the same thing”.

Magdalene campaigners and human rights groups have hit out at the Government’s legislation as “unacceptable, unfair and full of broken promises”.
