US army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who walked away from his post in Afghanistan and became a prisoner of the Taliban for five years, will face court-martial on charges of desertion and endangering US troops, army officials said yesterday.

A US marine who disappeared in Iraq and turned up in Lebanon nearly three weeks later left Germany today after six days of debriefing and evaluation in a military hospital, a Ramstein Air Base spokeswoman said.
