In 1946, when this novel begins, the world was still coming to terms with the horrors of the death camps of Nazi Germany and elsewhere. 

I am writing re Charles Hayes’ contention, (Letters 22 June) that anti-Zionism is not the same as anti-Semitism, the first being a moral stance and the latter being, “pernicious..”. 

I can sympathise with the sentiments of Isaac Barr, of Michigan, with regard to living in Haifa as he did in 1948 as a 14-year-old (Irish Examiner, Wednesday, September 10).

NADAV COHEN (Letters, June 2) must be aware that Zionism began as a secular movement and is in fact strenuously resisted on religious grounds by increasingly vocal Orthodox Jewish scholars, such as Yakov Rabkin, whose book, A Century of Jewish Opposition to Zionism, is most enlightening.
