Two firms in Dublin and Limerick have confirmed plans to create more than 500 jobs between them in the engineering and car rental fields.

Private equity firm BC Partners has agreed to buy a majority stake in Ireland-based online car rental company CarTrawler, it said yesterday.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index closed at its highest point since January today, maintaining its position above the important 4000 barrier.
