Two Islamist groups are leading in Egypt’s elections with over 60% of the total votes cast for party lists, partial results showed today.

EGYPT’S ultra-conservative Islamist party said yesterday it plans to push for a stricter religious code in Egypt after claiming surprisingly strong gains in this week’s initial round of voting for parliament, the first polls since Hosni Mubarak’s ouster.

Egypt’s opposition called the results of parliamentary elections invalid today claiming vote rigging secured an overwhelming victory for the ruling party.
