House prices in the UK continued to edge lower last month and the market is expected to remain subdued but stable into 2013, the Halifax building society said today.

British banking giant HBOS revealed today that less than 10% of shareholders took part in its £4bn (€5bn) rights issue.

The Halifax Building Society, Britain's biggest mortgage lender, said that the average cost of a property rose by 1.2% during October to £137,780 (€201,700), with prices now 16.7% higher than they were 12 months ago.
