WE BADLY need a reason to celebrate, so let’s join the revellers and merrymakers all over the world and really enjoy St Patrick’s Day.

Songs have been sung and poems have been written about Colcannon. It’s one of Ireland‘s most famous traditional potato dishes. It’s comfort food at its very best and terrific for a party.

WE’VE just planted a few drills of potatoes in our garden. Four different types Orla, Pink Fir Apple, Sharpes Express and Ratte — not too many of any variety but a selection of old-fashioned varieties to tantalise the taste buds right through from early June into the following year.
