Schoolchildren waved goodbye to cramped classrooms yesterday before a triumphant march into a spacious new state-of-the-art school.

The principal of a primary school that is poised to move to a new building has issued an invitation to all to a series of farewell events.

Developers have been given the go-ahead for a 15-storey skyscraper hotel at the main entrance to Sligo town — despite objections from residents, business people and environmentalists.
