Slovakia’s main political parties have reached a deal to approve changes to an EU bailout fund, the main opposition leader said today, just one day after parliament rejected the proposal, causing the government to fall.

SLOVAKIA’S government lost a confidence vote called over a plan to bolster the eurozone’s rescue fund, but the package is expected to go through in a later re-vote because the outgoing prime minister planned to ask for help from the opposition.

GERMANY kept alive hopes that the euro can survive the sprawling debt crisis when lawmakers voted overwhelmingly in favour of expanding the powers of the eurozone’s bailout fund.
