AN Irish MEP has urged the EU to oppose World Health Organisation (WHO) plans which he says could ruin Europe’s €2 billion duty-free alcohol industry.

IRISH duty free sales are to be severely reduced by European Commission plans to divert duty free sales away from smaller regional airports to the main EU hub airports in a move that could lead to huge financial losses for the airports.

PLUMMETING sales at airport duty free shops will be on the agenda for the EU-US summit next month, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has promised.
