More must be done to encourage people to start up their own businesses, the final major event of Ireland’s EU Presidency was told today.

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) provided more than two-thirds of total private sector employment in the European Union, an international conference heard today.

The Minister for Trade and Commerce Michael Ahern will open a Conference on the European Charter for Small Enterprises at Dublin Castle tomorrow.
