A new primary school opened in Tallaght this week with just one pupil — but will stay open if enough children enrol in the next few weeks.

All schools could save on running costs with the help of the purchasing power of the education and training boards (ETBs) being set up next year.

The incoming bosses of the boards replacing vocational education committees (VEC) have been selected and have started to plan next year’s changeover.

ALL schools could have access to the buying power and other expertise of the education boards that will replace VECs from next year.
