The Court of Appeal has ruled that a procedure under which the ESB served a notice to enter private lands to carry out upgrading works on electricity lines was unlawful.

A landowner who the ESB and Eirgrid claimed had obstructed upgrade work on the Co Donegal electricity network system has agreed to let works be carried out on his land.

EirGrid has brought a High Court challenge against Laois County Council's policy that all future power lines over 400kv going through the county must be put underground.
