Dublin Civil Defence is opening doors tonight to a homeless facility which will offer 20 beds as emergency accommodation in the run-up to Christmas.

IT was the turn of Kildare and Dublin to deal with the deluge yesterday as flood warnings were issued in both counties.

The flooding emergency that has ravaged areas of the south and west of the country shifted to the east today as heavy rains resulted in major flooding in many towns in Co Kildare.

The ESB has issued a flood warning for towns in Co Kildare that lie on the banks of the River Liffey including Ballymore Eustace, Kilcullen, Newbridge, Clane, Celbridge and Leixlip.

PANICKED motorists had to be rescued from waters up to four feet deep in parts of Dublin after the weekend’s record rainfall trapped them in flash floods.
