An oil platform has been evacuated off the coast of Scotland after a cargo vessel carrying radioactive waste from Scotland to Belgium began drifting towards it.

THE operators of two nuclear facilities have each been fined £2 million (€2.97m) over radioactive spillages.

The timescale to finish decommissioning the Dounreay nuclear plant in Scotland has been brought forward by 13 years, its operator announced today.

Anti-nuclear campaigners have welcomed reports Dounreay is to cease being classed as a nuclear reprocessing plant.
