Former Czech president Vaclav Havel opened the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Velvet Revolution with a concert attended by celebrities.

Prague braced for flooding today and 10,000 people were evacuated from their homes in a south-eastern town as rivers, swollen by rain and melting snow, rose to dangerous levels.

Rock star David Bowie cut short a concert in Prague because of pain in his shoulder, Czech media and the musician’s publicist said.

Prague’s international airport was evacuated early today after authorities received a telephoned bomb threat, a local news agency said.
