THE COMERFORD Cakes National Puppy Stake ranks very high on my list of favourite greyhound stakes of the entire year but even allowing for that, this year’s renewal has a scent of the old adage that too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

Within shouting distance of Christmas and here we are in a situation where the greyhound action is absolutely red hot with the Kerry Agribusiness Irish St Leger commencing tomorrow at Limerick Stadium while on Saturday at Shelbourne the first round of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake will fire into action.

THE seasons are certainly changing as far as greyhounds are concerned. In years gone by, tracks would be winding down and all major competitions would be completed at this stage of the year. Indeed times have changed.
