Astronomers say they have for the first time spotted a planet in what is sometimes called "the Goldilocks zone" - an area where conditions to support life are just right.

Scientists have discovered the universe’s largest known planet, a giant ball made of mostly hydrogen that is 20 times larger than Earth and circling a star 1,400 light years away.

A British academic has won a prestigious international prize worth €648,000, it was announced in Rome tonight.
