Senior officials in Cork County Council remain confident a mothballed €50m superdump will eventually open.

SUFFERING ratepayers in Co Cork will have to foot some of the cost of mothballing a €46.8 million state-of-the-art super dump.

A DECISION to open a €46 million superdump has been deferred indefinitely because a local authority cannot afford to operate it unless there are changes in government waste policy.

A REVIEW of the Bottlehill landfill licence was conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over six months of this year – without any EPA officials actually visiting the site.

STATISTICS, and widely differing ones at that, were thrown around like confetti yesterday as opposing sides at a hearing on a controversial superdump tried to gain the upper hand.

ANGRY residents given assurances that a 250-acre superdump would not open prior to the building of a rubbish separating plant claim these promises have been reneged upon.
