A Dublin-based renewable energy company is seeking a foreshore licence to assess the suitability of two offshore wind farm sites in Irish waters.

Waterford Council has granted planning permission for a combined 30mw solar farm in the Comeragh region of the county.

A €200m project is to create 23 solar farms in the south and south east of the country, leading to 2,000 jobs during construction and 60 full-time positions on completion.

Irish alternative energy company BNRG Renewables has begun constructing a €25m solar energy project in the UK, which will have the capacity to generate enough electricity for close to 5,000 homes for 30 years.
