US stock indexes nudged higher today after energy companies clawed back some of their sharp losses from earlier in the week.

A batch of negative company news gave US investors something to fret over.

Waterford Wedgwood has cut its losses by €69.2m to €188.9m, a move which the company says signals its progress back to profitability.
