Planning permission has been granted for a cluster of giant wind turbines around 9km outside Macroom, despite strong opposition from the local community.

About 150 objections to a proposed windfarm were yesterday handed to planning officials at Cork County Hall as part of a public protest by residents.

A public meeting is to be held in a rural West Cork community tomorrow night as locals discuss growing fears about the planned construction of a cluster of giant wind turbines near their homes.
