Qantas Airways said today that it plans to cut up to 1,000 jobs as part of a major shake-up of its international business which will include the launch of a new Asia-based airline.

ABOUT 100,000 workers jammed the streets of three Australian cities yesterday to protest against the government’s planned labour law reforms, which they say will reduce job security and worsen working conditions.
