Repairs are expected to continue throughout the night on the huge container ship, Atlantic Companion, which is anchored in Bantry Bay after losing engine power and drifting for almost 12 hours off Cork on Tuesday.

The wreck of the sail training ship Astrid, which ran aground off the coast of Cork on June 24, has been salvaged and was brought to the quays in Kinsale today.

The Coast Guard has given the green light for work to start on a major salvage operation on the stricken tall ship, Astrid.
