New York City police have launched an investigation into suspicious white powder found in envelopes at American Express’ headquarters near the site of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

The US Federal Reserve granted American Express’ request to become a commercial bank today, opening the door for the credit card giant to accept deposits and permanently access financing.
