The son of Libya’s late leader Muammar Gaddafi has been kidnapped by militants in Lebanon.

A Libyan court sentenced Muammar Gaddafi’s most prominent son, Saif al-Islam, and eight others to death over war crimes including killings of protesters during the 2011 revolution that ended his father’s rule.

Former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi met Irish government officials in late 2010 about a potential €1.4bn Bank of Ireland investment — but pulled out because he did not feel “comfortable” with our control of the financial crisis.
