A garda investigation is underway after vandals set fire to a playground in Moyross, Limerick city, in two separate attacks, last night and this morning.

The all Island deprivation index, calculated in 2011, ranks Moyross as the the single most deprived area out of 23,025 areas on the island of Ireland. 

Some 40 jobs have been lost in Limerick with the sudden closure of a Eurospar supermarket at Watch House Cross.

A show, devised and written by people in Moyross in Limerick, promises to offer an alternative to the negative headlines about the area and give a voice to the community. Entitled Moyross, the show runs at the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick from May 1-3 as part of the Limerick City of Culture programme.
