Cork is set to boldly go where few cities have gone before to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

For next year’s 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Tralee, in Co Kerry, has erected a plaque to commemorate the visit to the town of the late US astronaut, Neil Armstrong. He was the first man to step on the moon in 1969.

Two of the astronauts who 40 years ago today first landed on the moon have urged mankind to take a giant leap to Mars.
