A Syrian Kurdish militia has announced it is pulling out of a key northern Syrian town in a move that could ease a serious rift between Nato allies Turkey and the United States.

Islamic State fighters holding civilians hostage were allowed to leave the northern Syrian city of Manbij in a large convoy after US-backed forces seized the town.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have pushed into the outskirts of the Islamic State group's stronghold of Manbij in northern Syria.
